Los Avatares (encarnaciones) son de dos tipos: Amsaavatares y Purnaavatares. Todos los seres humanos son Amsaavatares (encarnaciones parciales de la Divinidad). Mamaivaamso jeevaloke jeevabhutah sanatanah (En este mundo de seres vivos, es una parte de Mi Ser Eterno la que se ha convertido en el Jiva, el alma individual), dice Krishna en el Gita. Estas encarnaciones parciales, atrapadas en la Maya, desarrollan el egoísmo y la posesividad y llevan vidas mundanas. Sin embargo, los Purnaavatares (encarnaciones completas de lo Divino), sojuzgando y trascendiendo la Maya, manifestan su plena divinidad al mundo en sus vidas. El Purnaavatar puede comportarse, según las circunstancias, como si estuviera sujeto a la Maya, pero en realidad Él está libre de ella en todo momento. Pero algunos, sin entender esta verdad, debido a sus propias limitaciones, atribuyen motivos equivocados a Sus acciones. En esto reflejan sus propios sentimientos. These partial incarnations, caught up in Maya, develop egoism and possessiveness and lead worldly lives. However, the Purnaavatars (complete incarnations of the Divine), subduing and transcending Maya, manifest their full divinity to the world in their lives. The Purnaavatar may behave, according to the circumstances, as if subject to Maya, but in reality He is free from it at all times. But some, not understanding this truth owing to their own limitations, attribute wrong motives to His actions. In this they reflect their own feelings.
