Las escrituras son afectuosas como una madre. Enseñan lecciones como lo hace una madre con sus hijos, conforme al nivel de inteligencia y las necesidades de tiempo y circunstancia. Una madre con dos hijos da al fuerte y sano todo tipo de alimento que él reclame, pero se cuida mucho de no sobrealimentar al hijo enfermo, al cual da solo cosas que puedan restaurarle pronto la salud. ¿Podemos por eso acusar a la madre de ser parcial hacia uno y tener prejuicios contra el otro, en la entrega de su amor? Las Escrituras les enseñan también a ustedes el secreto y el valor del trabajo (karma). Todos deben ser instruidos acerca de cómo transformar al trabajo en actividad beneficiosa. Sin embargo, el trabajo no lo es todo. La vida humana no dura más que un momento; es una burbuja sobre el agua. Sobre esta efímera burbuja de vida, no construyan una estructura de deseos y apegos. La sabiduría advierte que aquella puede colapsar o desmoronarse en cualquier momento. (Sutra Vahini, Capítulo 4)
The scriptures are as affectionate as a mother. They teach lessons like a mother would do for her children, in conformity with the level of intelligence and the needs of time and circumstance. A mother with two children gives the strong and healthy one every item of food for which it clamours, but she takes great care not to overfeed the unwell child and gives it only items that can restore it soon to health. Can we, on that account, accuse mother of being partial to one and prejudiced against the other in conferring love? Scriptures also teach you the secret and value of work (karma). All must be instructed on how to transform work into beneficial activity. Yet, work is not all. Human life lasts but a moment; it is a bubble on water. Upon this ephemeral bubble of life, do not build a structure of desires and attachments. Wisdom warns that it might collapse or crumble any moment. (Sutra Vahini, Ch 4)
