La arcilla es una substancia, pero con ella se pueden hacer numerosos productos, de diferentes formas y nombres. La misma leche blanca se obtiene de vacas de diferentes colores, que viven en diferentes países. De la misma manera, Dios es uno solo, pero habita en innumerables cuerpos, con diferentes nombres y formas. Tomen como ejemplo el oro. Del mismo metal se puede hacer una variedad de diferentes adornos. Si examinan la escena cósmica, hallarán que de la misma substancia básica es producida una variedad de objetos, con diferentes formas. De una sola semilla proviene un árbol con diferentes ramas, hojas, flores y frutos. Las ramas, hojas, flores y frutos son singulares y distintos, variando en forma, nombre y uso; pero todos ellos han salido de la misma semilla, su fuente. Este es el significado del término sánscrito "Ekoham Bahushyam", que indica "El Uno que eligió convertirse en muchos". Clay is one substance, but from it, several products of different shapes and names can be made. The same white milk is obtained from cows of different colours living in different countries. Similarly God is One, but dwells in innumerable bodies with different names and forms. Take the example of gold. From the same metal, a variety of different types of ornaments can be made. If you examine the cosmic scene, you will find that out of the same basic substance a variety of objects with different forms are produced. Out of a single seed comes a tree with different branches, leaves, flowers and fruits. Branches, leaves, flowers and fruits are unique and distinct, vary in form, name and use; but all of them have come from the one same seed, their source. This is the meaning of the Sanskrit term, “Ekoham Bahushyam” implying “The One, who chose to become Many.” (My Dear Students, Vol 3, Ch 16, “Sri Adi Shankaracharya: His Life”)
