Lo que se requiere es el control de los sentidos, no su destrucción. Controlar significa mantener bajo el mando; obedientes a la voluntad de uno. Y destrucción significa negación de actividad, completa inacción. Uno ha de mantener todos los sentidos bajo control y usarlos únicamente cuando los propósitos para los que han sido diseñados han de cumplirse. En vuestro hogar, ustedes deciden y velan por quien es la gente apropiada para pasar por la puerta. Los que deben entrar por una puerta no deben usar alguna distinta. Si lo hicieran no reinaría sino confusión y desorden en la casa. Es más juicioso tomar precauciones antes del desorden de su ingreso, en lugar de tratar con los intrusos después que hayan entrado. Podrían excusar la transgresión la primera vez. Mas ciertamente habrán de poner cuidado en ver que no se repita. Este es el método mejor, aunque no sea el óptimo.

One must keep all senses under control and use them only when the purposes for which they have been devised are to be fulfilled.
